| WEIGHTED VESTS Weighted vests are individually made to reflect a child's favorite colors, interests or school dress code needs. Generally they are 5% of total body weight. If you ask for a heavier weight I will refer you back to your OT. Keep in mind a size 3T vest cannot physically hold 10 pounds of weight. And can you imagine your toddler carrying around two 5 pound bags of sugar ? Vests can be made in just about any type, color or print of fabric. If a little boy is wild about Spiderman why not let him have a Spiderman vest? He'll WANT to wear it. If your child's school has dress restrictions, Spiderman can be on the inside. Regardless of the size or age, we will all wear something more if we like it. I am only limited by your imagination. All of my vests have the weights inserted in pockets on the inside of the vest. These pockets are held closed with Velcro. The weight is divided evenly between the pockets. A third of the weight is across the front, a third is across the back and a third is over the shoulders. The exception is in the bigger sizes, I can usually only get 1-1 1/2 pounds on each shoulder so sometimes extra weight is added to the front or back pockets. The weights are made of a non-toxic, odor free, non digestible, gluten and dairy free material sealed in plastic and then in fabric. Every effort has been made to make the weights as flat and non bulky as possible. They will remain flexible and will tend to conform to the body. However you will find that the weights may tend to bunch up over time, they are easily removed and flattened. Simply remove them from the vest and work them flat again with your hands. The weights must be removed for laundry. All seams have been double stitched and the vest’s close in the front with 2-3 heavy duty snaps. Unless you hug someone wearing a vest you are not aware that the vest contains weights. |
